The volunteer stayed overnight with a sick dog on the last night of her life
How many beautiful stories with a happy ending can be read every day! This story, however, cannot boast of it. Unfortunately, not everyone finds a house among the saved animals and lives a wonderful life. And wonderful volunteers come to their aid who will never go past the “hopeless” cases. This person was also Janine.
Janine is the founder of an animal rescue society in one of the US states. When she first saw Watson, who was found by a student in a park, weak, emaciated, and covered in abscesses, she hoped she could be helped. But after spending a little time with him, she read the opposite in his eyes. He is tired of fighting.
Veterinarians took intensive care of Watson for several days, but his prognosis did not bode well. But the disease, it seems, has already managed to disperse throughout the body. The only thing that could be done for Watson was to give him the last days of comfort and care.
Instead of giving Watson a comfortable cage with blankets for the night, Janine decided to stay with him.
“I had a feeling that the next day he would feel worse. I didn’t want to leave him alone, only not when he most needed my support. ”
Janine collected blankets and bedding from all the cages and put them in the laundry room. She and Watson lay on the floor, and she spent the whole night stroking him and supporting him with kind words.Perhaps in Watson's life this was the only night he spent in the hands of a loving person.
“He slept without hind legs, clinging to me. And I fell asleep and woke up with tears in my eyes. "
The next morning, Watson completely refused food and water. He twisted circles, fell. Janine showed him to the veterinarian and hugged him tightly at 10:28 when he took his last breath.
We will never know if Watson knew anything about human kindness until salvation. But even if that night was the only one filled with care and love, Janine feels better at the thought that she was able to spend time with him, in which he most needed her.
"My heart is broken. But I wouldn’t change anything. ”
