Wet and dry dog food: what is the difference
What is the difference between wet dog food and dry?
Wet foods can be hypoallergenic, balanced, easily digestible, but not full-ration. That is, it is impossible to constantly feed only with wet food, it does not have enough vitamins and minerals, less fat, protein and calories. The animal will not receive all the necessary substances. Basically, wet food is used as an additional nutrition as an additive to dry food, they can be mixed or alternated. For example, you can feed your dog wet food every morning, and the rest of the time she will eat dry food, but do not forget that the daily norm of dry diet should be reduced so that your animal does not gain excess weight.
In the composition of wet foods can be found offal of animal origin (liver, heart, lung, scar), meat, cereals, vegetables, sometimes add inulin, taurine, salt and sugar, prebiotics, etc. Only in the super premium class do manufacturers write in full what their products consist of. If you want your pet to be tasty and healthy, then it is worth choosing canned goods and preserves of premium and super premium class.
The consistency of wet and canned foods is varied: slices or slices in sauce or jelly, pastes, mousses, soups.
Good canned food can be determined visually and by smell, the consistency will be dense, in the form of minced meat with the addition of the indicated ingredients (pieces of carrots, peas, rice), you must distinguish the components by eye.In canned food it is simpler, the consistency is more loose and uniform, and in very cheap canned food in a jar you will see pieces in sauce or jelly, and you don’t understand at all what they are made of. The most expensive canned foods contain fillets: when you open the jar, you see a whole piece of meat.
Dry and wet dog food production technology
The basis for the success of the animal feed company is a unique recipe. Its development costs a lot of money and effort, and there are very few specialists in this field, which gives even more value to their work. Each manufacturer is sure that it is his concept that is the most correct and successful. There are companies that have been producing feed for more than a dozen years, they are the most famous and everyone knows, even the one who first got a puppy or kitten.
Any new product is tested before being launched into mass production. The technology is approximately the same for all firms.
Feed is produced using specialized equipment. The cooking process includes several stages: grinding of raw materials, evaporation of excess moisture, mixing the ingredients to a homogeneous mass, molding of granules, drying and glazing.
Each company brings its own nuances to production, which makes their recipe unique. If meat flour is used in production, then before mixing it is poured with steam saturated with liquid.
And in the last stage, the granules are covered with fats, a vitamin complex, protective antioxidants, which allows you to save the product for up to 18 months.
