Maternity, pregnancy and childbirth of the English Bulldog - what the owner needs to know
However, there are features inherent in the English Bulldog.
English Bulldog tecca
The first estrus in a female English bulldog bitch occurs in 7-10 months and usually takes place twice a year. A month before estrus, you will see changes: the dog will become more playful and less obedient.
To protect sofas and carpets, you can wear panties on the dog. Try to walk with your smaller favorite, only so that she can cope.
The strongest hunt is from 9 to 15 days (sometimes from 7 to 17 days). Then the bitch herself tries to attract males.
Pregnancy in an English Bulldog
It is possible to knit a bitch of an English bulldog when she reaches 18 months (according to the rules of the Belarusian Cynological Association), a dog - from 15 months. However, many believe that it is better to wait until the dog is at least 1 year 8 months old.
“Pregnancy for health” is one of the most dangerous myths of many owners!
Pregnancy is not a healing process. This is a strong stress and load on the immune system and internal organs. Therefore, only a perfectly healthy dog should give birth.
In the first month of pregnancy, walks and meals are no different from the usual routine.
In the second month, mineral supplements with a high content of magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and vitamins are introduced into the diet. If the dog does not want to walk for a long time, do not insist.
A week before the expected birth, contact your veterinarian to determine how they will go: naturally or using a caesarean section. It depends on many reasons, including the structure of the pelvic bones of a bitch, the characteristics of labor, etc.
Signs of an approaching birth:
- lowering the temperature to 37 degrees
- frequent and shallow breathing
- attempts to dig.
Childbirth of the English Bulldog
Keep in mind that an English bulldog may have difficulties during childbirth. They are associated with large heads of puppies and a narrow basin of the expectant mother, which is why it is difficult for a bitch to give birth, therefore they often resort to planned caesarean section.
And phlegm is manifested in the fact that muscle tone is sometimes not brought to the necessary state.
According to statistics, only six out of ten bitches of the English bulldog are able to breed on their own.
All this leads to the fact that only extremely experienced breeders can take birth on their own, but provided that the bitch is not the first and all its features are well known. However, in this case, it is necessary to show the dog to the veterinarian after the birth of the babies.
Be sure to seek the support of an experienced breeder and veterinarian who are familiar with the features of the English Bulldog if you want to take birth yourself!
